The Vacancy
Salary: NJC Grade C: £25,989 - £26,403 FTE (This will be paid pro-rata to reflect hours and weeks worked)
Working Pattern: This is a permanent position working 18 hours per week, 39 weeks per year until (Monday, Thursday, Friday)
The Duchy School are seeking a Teaching Assistant to join our school team. We require an individual who is enthusiastic, conscientious, self-motivated and would like to provide a key role in enabling access to learning for our pupils. This role will involve working closely with teachers and other colleagues to support a range of pupils, including those with recognised special educational needs. It is a highly rewarding position within a supportive team, where you can gain new skills and make a real difference to the education of our children.
The ideal candidates will have excellent communication and organisational skills, and be able to undertake work, care and support programmes as directed by the class teacher and SENDCo. We are very proud of our inclusive school, and our support staff team play a vital role in enabling our children to succeed.
About the Role
Working under the guidance of teaching and senior staff, you will support learning in both the classroom and small‑group settings.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Supporting pupils’ welfare and personal care, including those with SEND
Implementing literacy and numeracy interventions
Assisting with planning cycles and preparing learning resources
Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging pupil independence
You will also assist with supervision during break/lunchtimes and accompany pupils on trips when required.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who can bring compassion and commitment to the role.
Essential qualities include:
Experience working with or caring for children of a relevant age
Knowledge of safeguarding practice and strategies to remove barriers to learning
Strong communication skills, including confidence and fluency in spoken English
Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Ability to relate well to both children and adults
Desirable (but not essential):
Experience supporting pupils with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
Knowledge of SEN practices and the national curriculum
Additional training in learning strategies such as literacy or numeracy
NVQ Level 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent
